Arktische Küsten auf dem Rückzug Ereignis

Die Küstenlinie in arktischen Dauerfrostgebieten reagiert auf den Klimawandel mit verstärkter Erosion und zieht sich im Durchschnitt um einen halben Meter pro Jahr zurück. Dies bedeutet große Veränderungen für die küstennahen arktischen Ökosysteme und die dort lebende Bevölkerung. Zu diesen Ergebnissen kommt ein Konsortium von mehr als dreißig Wissenschaftler aus zehn Ländern, die waren an der Erstellung des 170 Seiten starken Zustandsberichts „State of the Arctic Coast 2010“ beteiligt. Initiiert und koordiniert wurde die Studie vom Internationalen Arktischen Wissenschaftsrat (IASC), dem internationalen Verbundprojekt „Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ)“, der Internationalen Permafrost –Gesellschaft (IPA), sowie der Arbeitsgruppe „Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP)“ des Arktischen Rates. Gemeinsam wurden mehr als 100.000 Kilometer und damit ein Viertel aller arktischen Küsten untersucht und diese Ergebnisse wurden am 18. April 2011 erstmalig veröffentlicht. Besonders dramatisch sind die Veränderungen in der Laptev-, der Ostsibirischen und der Beaufortsee, in denen die Erosionsraten der Küsten zum Teil mehr als 8 Meter pro Jahr betragen.

The coastline in Arctic regions reacts to climate change with increased erosion and retreats by half a metre per year on average. This means substantial changes for Arctic ecosystems near the coast and the population living there. A consortium of more than thirty scientists from ten countries was involved in preparing the 170-page status report entitled “State of the Arctic Coast 2010”. The study was initiated and coordinated by the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), the international joint project Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ), the International Permafrost Association (IPA) and the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) working group of the Arctic Council. The scientists jointly investigated over 100,000 kilometres and thus a fourth of all Arctic coasts and their results was published on 18 April 2011.The changes are particularly dramatic in the Laptev, East Siberian and Beaufort Seas, where coastal erosion rates reach more than 8 metres a year in some cases.
