Definitions

An estimate of the amount of a substance in food or drinking water that can be consumed over a lifetime without presenting an appreciable risk to health. It is usually expressed as milligrams of the substance per kilogram of body weight and applies to chemical substances such as food additives, pesticide residues and veterinary drugs.(Europäische Behörde für Lebensmittelsicherheit – EFSA www20161108 https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/glossary-taxonomy-terms)

Acceptable daily intake (ADI)(ADI-Wert)Estimate of the amount of a substance in food or drinking water, expressed on a body mass basis (usually mg/kg body weight), which can be ingested daily over a lifetime by humans without appreciable health risk. For calculation of the daily intake per person, a standard body mass of 60 kg is used. ADI is normally used for food additives (tolerable daily intake is used for contaminants). DefGEMET: The measurement of the amount of any chemical substance that can be safely consumed by a human being in a day. Calculations are usually based on the maximum level of a substance that can be fed to animals without producing any harmful effects. This is divided by a 'safety factor' to allow for the differences between animals and humans and to take account of the variation in human diets. (Source: WRIGHT)
