Erster Internationaler Tag des Ostsee Schweinswal Ereignis

Um auf die gefährdeten Bestände von Schweinswalen in der Ostsee hinzuweisen, haben das UN-Umweltprogramm (UNEP) und das Abkommen zur Erhaltung der Kleinwale in der Nord- und Ostsee, des Nordostatlantiks und der Irischen See (ASCOBANS) den "Internationalen Tag des Ostsee Schweinswals" ins Leben gerufen. Seit 2003 wird jedes Jahr der dritte Sonntag im Mai von Schulen, Museen und verschiedene Nichtregierungsorganisationen (NGOs) des Ostseeraumes mit vielen unterschiedlichen Aktivitäten gefeiert.

In 2002, the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans in the Baltic and North Seas (UNEP/ASCOBANS) declared the third Sunday in May of each year as the International Day of the Baltic Harbour Porpoise (IDBHP) in order to raise
awareness of the critical situation of the populations of Harbour Porpoises (Phocoena
phocoena), the only species of cetacean native to the Baltic Sea.
