Deutsch-Chinesische Zusammenarbeit der Städte Düsseldorf und Wuxi für kommunalen Klimaschutz Ereignis

Im März 2011 startete unter Vorsitz des Wuppertal Instituts für Klima, Umwelt, Energie das Forschungsprojekt „Low Carbon Future Cities“ mit dem Ziel, für die chinesische Stadt Wuxi und für die Region Düsseldorf umfassende kommunale Klimaschutzstrategien zu erarbeiten und umzusetzen. Die Stiftung Mercator stellt dafür 1,65 Millionen Euro zur Verfügung. Ziel ist es Bausteine für Stadtentwicklungskonzepte zu erarbeiten, die neben der zentralen Anforderung der Senkung von Treibhausgasemissionen zugleich auch Wege zur Minderung des Ressourcenverbrauchs sowie zur Anpassung an die nicht vermeidbaren Folgen des Klimawandels aufzeigen. Dieser integrative Ansatz soll weit über die beteiligten Ballungsräume hinaus wirken und Anstöße für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung der Städte der Zukunft geben.

In March 2011, under the responsibility of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, the research project "Low Carbon Future Cities" aiming to develop and implement a comprehensive communal climate protection strategy for the Chinese city of Wuxi and for the Düsseldorf region is being launched. For this purpose, Stiftung Mercator is providing 1.65 million Euros. The new project aims to develop building blocks for urban development concepts that not only include mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, but also describe ways to reduce resource consumption and to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change. This integrated approach, to be developed on this scale for the first time, should take effect far beyond the participating conurbations and stimulate the sustainable development of cities of the future.
