Bund und Länder haben beschlossen, in den Jahren 2011 und 2012 die dritte Bundeswaldinventur durchzuführen. Die Verordnung vom 23. Mai 2007 (BGBl I S. 954) schafft die rechtliche Grundlage.
Die Bundeswaldinventur erfaßt die großräumigen Waldverhältnisse und forstlichen Produktionsmöglichkeiten auf Stichprobenbasis nach einem einheitlichen Verfahren in ganz Deutschland.

The third National Forest Inventory will be conducted in the years 2011 and 2012. The National Forest Inventory is a large-scale survey of forest status and forest production potential conducted on a random basis and using a uniform procedure for the entire territory of the Federal Republic of Germany.
